AS Monaco are considering a summer swoop for a disadvantaged member of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool squad, according to reports.

The star of the Reds in question? Takumi Minamino.

Japan international Minamino has of course endured something of a haphazard campaign at Anfield in 2021/22.

Slipping further and further down Liverpool’s attacking pecking order due to the mid-season arrival of Luis Diaz, the 27-year-old was given a meager start to the Premier League but instead got the chance to impress widely in cup competition.

And, to his credit, producing in limited playing time is precisely what Minamino has continued to do.

In 24 appearances in all competitions, including nine in the form of starts, the ex-Red Bull Salzburg star has scored ten not too shabby goals.

With Benfica’s prolific hitman Darwin Nunez set to land in the red half of Merseyside over the next few weeks, however, Minamino remains on the outside when it comes to Klopp’s ranks ahead of next season.

In turn, it should come as no surprise to hear clubs across the continent starting to express strong interest in the talented striker.

And, as mentioned above, one of those outfits has positioned itself as the front runner for her signature this week.

According to a report by John Percy of The Telegraph, Ligue 1 side Monaco, of course blessed with a huge cash injection thanks to Real Madrid’s move for Aurélien Tchouameni, have become the ‘favourites’ to land Minamino this summer. .

This comes despite Bruno Lage’s Wolves also expressing an interest in his services ahead of next season.

Those in positions of power at Anfield, meanwhile, would be prepared to sanction Minamino’s exit, by making a switch to Stade Louis II, for a sum in the region of £17million, a real possibility.
