Media reports late on Saturday suggest Manchester United have joined a number of Premier League rivals in the search for a future free agent midfielder.

The player in question? Christian Eriksen.

Denmark international Eriksen, of course, secured a return to English football last January.

After seeing his contract with Italian heavyweights Inter Milan terminated due to Serie A rules regarding the use of implanted automatic defibrillators, a device the 30-year-old was fitted with following his frightening Cardiac arrest at last summer’s European Championships, Eriksen has been offered a fresh start by Premier League newcomers Brentford.

And to say it’s an opportunity the Dane took full advantage of would be putting it lightly.

Eriksen has featured in ten of Brentford’s last 11 league outings from the start, registering a goal and four assists along the way, proving beyond doubt that he remains more than capable of cutting his teeth at the top level of the league. Game.

With such form, however, inevitable speculation surrounds Eriksen’s future beyond the summer.

The 30-year-old’s tenures with Brentford are set to end at the end of the month, with his stance on whether to put pen to paper on a west London extension currently unclear.

And, as mentioned above, should Eriksen ultimately make the decision to move on, he shouldn’t be short of suitors at all.

Everton and Tottenham Hotspur, the latter with whom the midfielder enjoyed such success earlier in his career, are said to be keen on signing him for next season.

And now another Premier League side have joined the Eriksen draw, in the form of Manchester United.

According to a report from The Mirror, the Dane ‘has become an option’ for the Red Devils, amid the club’s ongoing rebuilding under new boss Erik ten Hag.

The Dutch tactician is said to be keen to stretch his transfer budget as much as possible over the next few months, with a view to adding up to six players to his ranks at Old Trafford.

The prospect of landing such a performer with proven Premier League experience on a free transfer is therefore very tempting for ten Hag, who was impressed with Eriksen’s form and desire during a brief training with the first team. Ajax ahead of his potential move to Brentford.
