Costa Rica v Martinique

After the defeat on the first day, will Costa Rica be able to get out of the game when they return home?

On Thursday night, the Ticos were beaten 2-0 by Panama at the Estadio Olímpico Rommel Fernández Gutiérrez.

Three years ago Costa Rica topped their Nations League group, only to be beaten by Mexico on penalties in the semi-finals last summer.

If Luis Fernando Suárez’s side are also to take part in next year’s finals, they must certainly win.

That said, Costa Rica are really using these two Nations League games to prepare for their gigantic game next week.

In nine days, they face New Zealand in an inter-confederation play-off in Qatar, with the winners qualifying for the World Cup.

So, after seeing their seven-game unbeaten streak come to an end, will Costa Rica claim a moral victory ahead of this huge game ahead?

Martinique, meanwhile, competes first in the Nations League, despite not actually being a member of FIFA.

The Matinino survived at this level in 2019, drawing three out of four games, edging out Trinidad and Tobago in second place.

Moreover, Martinique have appeared in four of the last five Gold Cups, showing that they are an emerging force in the CONCACAF region.

This is their first competitive match since last July, however, which means Costa Rica should be too strong at the Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica.

Guatemala vs Belize

After suffering a shock opening day defeat, can Guatemala bounce back?

Los Chapines entered the second edition of the Nations League with a record of 100% in this competition, scoring 25 goals in their four outings.

However, in their first match at Ligue B level, they were beaten 2-0 by French Guinea at Stade Municipal Dr. Edmard Lama on Thursday.

So, if Luis Fernando Tena’s side want to keep their dream of back-to-back promotions alive, they must surely win.

Belize were also beaten 2-0 on the opening night of the competition, against the Dominican Republic in Belmopan.

The Jaguars barely survived at this level in 2019, finishing one point out of danger, and that will surely be their target again.

So, despite their midweek result, Guatemala should be too strong at the Estadio Doroteo Guamuch Flores.

Dominican Republic vs French Guinea

Both Matchday 1 winners of League B Group D will put their records 100% on the line at the Estadio Olímpico Félix Sánchez.

French Guinea caused the upset of the evening by beating group favorites Guatemala 2-0 in Rémire-Montjoly.

Joël Sarrucco broke the deadlock early before Thomas Némouthé doubled his lead as half-time approached.

Yana Dòkò have been very inconsistent at this level in 2019, winning twice, drawing twice and losing twice.

But, if Thierry De Neef’s side can add another win here, they will be in pole position for promotion at this early stage.

The Dominican Republic will feel exactly the same after beating Belize 2-0 in Belmopan on Thursday.

Jean Carlos López then Dorny Romero the scorers of this victory on the road.

The Quisqueyanos have never qualified for the Gold Cup in 13 attempts, hoping to reach the 2023 edition at the top of this section.

Who will claim three important points in Santo Domingo?

Antigua and Barbuda vs Guadeloupe

Will either claim two wins from two in the CONCACAF Nations League?

On Thursday night, Guadeloupe came out late but beat Cuba 2-1 at Stade René Serge Nabajoth.

Grégory Gendrey opened the scoring before, just as the clock struck 90, Thierry Ambrose snatched victory from the home side.

Gwada Boys were promoted to this level in 2019, overtaking their League C group ahead of Turks and Caicos Islands and St. Maarten.

Having also made their return to the Gold Cup last summer, the Guadeloupeans certainly have the wind in their sails and are looking to continue on this trajectory.

Meanwhile, Antigua and Barbuda also dropped late to win on matchday one, beating Barbados 1-0 at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground.

Shavorn Philip scored the only goal of the night, in second-half stoppage time.

Benna Boys won three and lost three in League B three years ago but are now dreaming of promotion to the top tier.

Will either prevail at the top of the standings with another win at the Warner Park Sporting Complex?

Cuba versus Barbados

After both being beaten on Matchday 1, who will come out on top in Santiago de Cuba?

On Thursday night, Cuba began their CONCACAF Nations League campaign in heartbreaking fashion with a loss.

They seemed ready to leave Les Abymes with a credible point, Maikel Reyes equalizing late in the game, before Guadeloupe won the match in stoppage time.

This means the Caribbean Lions have now lost all five matches in this competition, suffering relegation from League A last time out.

Similarly, Barbados were beaten 1-0 by Antigua and Barbuda on Thursday, with the only one coming after the 90th minute.

The Bajan Tridents were promoted to this level in 2019, topping their League C group ahead of the Cayman Islands, St Maarten and the US Virgin Islands.

However, early indications are that these two will battle to avoid relegation to the lower tier this year.

Will Cuba assert their home advantage at the Estadio Antonio Maceo?

Dominica vs Anguilla

For the second time in just three days, Dominica and Anguilla face off.

On Thursday evening, the two participated in the opening match of this new Nations League season at the Raymond E. Guishard Technical Center.

The game ended scoreless with Dominica creating three or four clear chances to win it.

It’s certainly a more impressive point for Anguilla who are ranked 210th in the world by FIFA, meaning only San Marino is below them.

Before that, Anguilla had lost nine consecutive competitive internationals, conceding 47 goals.

So this time, back at home, Dominica will target the three points.

Rajesh Latchoo’s side were relegated from League B in 2019 and are therefore aiming for an immediate return to the second tier.

However, after dropping two points on Thursday and with games against Saint Lucia to come, this has to win.

Will Dominica be too strong this time around as the two reunite at the Warner Park Sporting Complex?
